Concept cars – successful ones – carry out a variety of missions. They allow designers the opportunity to try out advanced ideas. If they are driveable, they allow engineers to test a new engine or drivetrain. When exhibited amid all the hype and glamor at auto shows, they allow companies to gauge press and crowd reactions to planned or potential future concepts. But there’s another, more hidden mission. Concept cars allow companies' management to “get used to the future”, to get acquainted and sometimes comfortable with the shape and direction in which car design is moving. The Prowler was a concept vehicle that moved into production with only minimal design changes. However, most of Chrysler Corporation’s earlier concept cars, while they may have had a profound influence on production car design it never became part of the company lineup, like the Prowler.
The Plymouth Prowler was a wildly popular concept vehicle at Detroit’s 1993 North American International Auto Show and was designed to evoke memories of and pay tribute to a uniquely American form of the automobile - the street rod. With roots that extended back to the Twenties, the street rod has come to symbolize youth, freedom and a sense of rebellion. The Prowler is intended to capture these feelings and make them available to a new generation of drivers. Eventual production was spurred by intense demand from hopeful buyers forwarding unsolicited deposit checks to Chrysler long before production was seriously planned. However, further, development was soon approved with production commencing in early 1997 at Chrysler’s Conner Avenue Detroit plant. Production of the Prowler was initially planned to run just four model years. As the first “Plymouth-only” vehicle from Chrysler in years, it joined the Plymouth model catalog for 1997 and outlived the marque’s cancellation but was rebranded in 2001 and sold as a Chrysler vehicle.
Finished in the eye-catching color of Chrysler Yellow, this fractious Prowler is 1 of just 390 US examples and 1 of 420 in total to be finished in this color. The total amount of Prowlers built is 11,702, but only 3,170 were built between 2001 and 2002 when it was sold under the Chrysler name and not Plymouth, making them a harder breed to come across. This Prowler has only been with two previous owners before being acquired by the Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum and serves as a time capsule with very few miles on the odometer.
The Prowler’s mechanicals included such proven existing components as Chrysler’s High Output 3.5-liter, SOHC V-6 engine with four valves per cylinder, mated to a 42LE Auto-Stick four-speed transmission with manual-shift capability housed in a rear transaxle. Additional features included 17- and 20- inch wheels plus a racing-style pushrod-rocker front suspension with coil-over shocks. The exposed front suspension components and front cycle-type fenders completed the vintage street-rod look, with the sole external concession to modernity being split impact bumpers front and rear. The sporty yet luxurious interior featured a tachometer on the steering column, plus leather upholstery and amenities including air-conditioning, cruise control, and a premium stereo. In road tests, the Prowler was a surprisingly strong performer in all measured disciplines. Updates from 1999 included an all-aluminum engine now producing 253 horsepower and a great-sounding tuned exhaust system, truly capturing what the old-school street old feel was all about.

First shown in 2002 to celebrate the Ford Motor Company's upcoming centennial, the Ford GT40 concept car was designed by Camilo Pardo, the head of Ford’s “Living Legends” studio under the direction of Ford Design Chief, J. Mays. Clearly inspired by the all-conquering GT40s that conclusively beat Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966 and dominated there through 1969, the Ford GT was prepared, refined, and tested for production. While echoing the GT40's layout and iconic design cues, the new Ford GT utilized modern, state-of-the-art engineering, materials, and construction to deliver greater performance than its legendary forebear. Powering the new GT was a mid-mounted supercharged, 32-valve 5.4-liter V-8 engine with competition-type dry sump lubrication producing 550 HP. Power was delivered by a six-speed gearbox/rear transaxle from Ricardo, the supplier of racing transmissions for international racing. All-independent suspension and huge vented Brembo four-wheel disc brakes rounded out the mechanical package.
Built using space-age materials and construction techniques, each GT was built in five stages with initial assembly performed by Norwalk, Ohio's Mayflower Vehicle Systems, paint by Saleen Special Vehicles in Troy, Michigan, engine assembly at Ford's Romeo, Michigan engine plant, and finally engine and transmission installation and interior finishing at Ford's Wixom, Michigan plant. Notably, the Ford GT was the last vehicle project completed at Wixom. According to published sources, only 4,033 examples were produced in all, including 2,022 and 2,011 built during 2005 and 2006 respectively. Demand far outstripped supply, with early cars selling for substantial premiums over the basic Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and prospective buyers vying for vehicle-production slots.
While capable of truly blistering performance, including a 209.1-mph speed hit by one of the test cars at Nardo, Italy, these cars are also renowned for their deceptive practicality and ease of operation in everyday traffic, including a light clutch feel. The interior, which pays homage to the original GT40, is complete with leather-trimmed carbon fiber seats, electric power windows, and air-conditioning. Unlike its 1960s predecessor, however, the GT interior is remarkably comfortable with ample space for taller drivers. All these attributes came about from the now-legendary development and testing program applied to the GT by Ford's SVT Special Vehicle Team before it was deemed ready for series-production and sale to the public. Of course, the GT’s raison d’être was extreme performance, with the car’s capabilities honed to perfection under the watchful eye of none other than Carroll Shelby who, in conjunction with Ken Miles, whipped the original 1960s GT40 into a Ferrari-beater in international competition. Given the intense 1960s “Ford vs Ferrari” rivalry, it comes as no surprise that the engineers at Maranello closely eyed the Ford GT with great interest.
An undeniable icon of speed with modern-day class and useability, this 2005 Ford GT is 1 of only 765 to be finished in Mark IV Red Clearcoat of the 2,450 built for the 2005 model year. Ford only offered 4 options for these vehicles, and this example originally checked the box for all 4. These options include BBS Forged alloy wheels, full-length racing strips, rocker panel strips and a McIntosh sound system, which has been upgraded to an Alpine unit. At the heart, or should I say the rear, it holds a 32-valve 5.4-liter V-8 engine that has been tastefully upgraded with an industry-leading intercooled 4.5-liter Whipple supercharger. Originally producing 550 horsepower, the Whipple supercharger adds over 250 more ponies, taking it to a near 800 horsepower. Mated to a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission, the two components combine to create a race-like experience that is 100 percent road legal.
Originally sold new at the Downtown Ford Sales dealership located in Sacramento, California, this Ford GT spent its early life in the Golden State before heading south for Flordia for a few years. Acquired by the Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum in the fall of 2018 this 2005 Ford GT has been a staple in the collection and a reminder of what Ford was able to accomplish in the late 60s with the historic and world renown GT40.

The 2016 911R is among the most sought-after Porsches ever built. With inspiration from its legendary namesake, the 1967 911R, the 2016 reiteration put weight reduction and performance first as its R code for ‘racing’ intended. The 2016 911R delivers teeth-clenching engagement with an old-school six-speed gearbox mated to a modern powerhouse beneath the classic 911 rear. This equates to the most desirable road-going rally car Porsche has produced in this century. In honor of the outgoing 991.1 series of the 911, only 991 units were produced and they have only appreciated in value since making their debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
At a time when every sportscar is mating supersonic engines with manumatic do-it-for-you transmissions, the 2016 Porsche 911R hearkens back to what true sports car enthusiasts want: an all-hands-on-deck, engaging driver experience. This tactile, pure driving experience finds its roots in its famed forebearer, the 1967 911R. In 1967, Ferdinand Piëch, Ferry Porsche’s nephew, created just 23 units of the 911R. Porsche’s first crack at the homologation game was the lightest 911 Porsche ever produced and the road-going legend has become one of the most sought-after 911s in history.
In keeping with legacy, the new generation was designed to be a featherlight, driver’s sportscar with an eye toward the pinnacle of road-going performance and driver engagement. Aesthetically, both the 1967 and 2016 fly under the radar and can almost be mistaken for a tamer 911 at first glance. Visual cues carried over include racing stripes, predominantly red or green, as well as an interior that focuses on the cockpit rather than amenities, except for fantastic houndstooth upholstery centers. Most importantly, the spirit of the 911R remains the same; it’s built for pure, driver enjoyment.
At a mere 6-pounds-per-horsepower, the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre, flat-six breathes fire within the lightest 911 body produced to date. This equates to a redline of 8,500 rpms, 338 ft/lbs torque and a spirited 500 horsepower. What makes this all the more riveting is the driver experience that mates the transmission to a true six-speed gearbox, complete with an OG clutch pedal, all of which over delivers with a concise gear-ratio spread and short shift lever. Weight reduction was expertly achieved by utilizing carbon fiber for front fenders, bonnet lid and seat backrests. The roof is featherlight magnesium, the exhaust is titanium, and the fierce 20-inch wheels are forged aluminum with racy center locks. The streamlined, aerodynamic spoiler only rises when essential for stabilization. Equipped with carbon-ceramic brake rotors, limited-slip differential and rear-axle steering, the 245/35R-20 front and 305/30R-20 rear tires can stop on a dime. With only 991 examples, prices on the 911R have continued their ascent since they left the factory floor.
This 911R boasts options including radio, air-conditioning, fabric loops in place of interior door pulls, and the desirable 14-inch, single-mass flywheel. The interior is trimmed in carbon fiber, offset by white-stitched black leather and striking houndstooth-inlaid racing seats bearing the 911R logo on the headrests. Curbside, the exterior sports rare blue racing stripes and side-panel Porsche logo as well as black 20-inch rims with Porsche crested centers. Accompanied by the original window sticker, maintenance records, and the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this car is one of only 300 that made it to our shores.

The history of the Corvette is one that most, if not all car enthusiasts are aware of, but what many might not know, is the history of the Z06 package. Simply put you have your basic stock Corvettes and then you have the option on certain models to get the Z06 package, which is a much wilder iteration of the car. The first ever Corvette to flaunt this package was the 1963 Stingray, it only lasted for one year but came with features that virtually turned the Corvette into a road-legal racecar. Those features included upgraded suspension components, heavy-duty brakes, a dual-circuit master cylinder, and a larger fuel tank. The Z06 was also only available with the fuel-injected 327 V8 engine with a four-speed manual transmission, solidifying itself as the package to get if you had the need for speed on the road. The Z06 would be discounted until 2001 when it was reintroduced for the fifth-generation C5 Vette. Since its reintroduction, the Z06 package has since been offered in every new generation and has been one of the most high-performance and sought-after versions of the Corvette.
Apart of the seventh generation of Corvettes, which ran from 2014 to 2019, this 2016 Chevrolet Corvette is equipped with the desirable Supercharged Z06 package. During its five-year production run, 39,940 Z06 models were produced, but only a mere 2,151 left the factory finished in Corvette racing Yellow like this example. This Z06 is the ultimate sports car, starting with the highly praised LT4 all-aluminum 6.2-liter V-8 engine that delivers 650 horsepower and 650 pounds-feet of torque through the combined sorcery of dry-sump oiling, direct fuel injection, variable valve timing and a more efficient intercooled Eaton supercharger. Compared to the C6 Z06 Corvette, it leaves it standing still in the dust as it only produced 505 horsepower and 470 pounds-feet of torque. To complement the impressive engine, it also features a number of performance upgrades over the standard Corvette, which include larger carbon ceramic Brembo-branded brakes with factory yellow calipers, a sport-tuned suspension, and a lightweight aluminum frame.
To help with performance, the 2016 Z06 came with massive Michelin P285/30ZR20 rear tires, which were mounted on wider 19x10-inch front and 20x12-inch rear spin-cast aluminum wheels. The wider wheels and tires required front and rear fenders and a unique rear fascia, which helps visually distinguish the Z06 from the standard Stingray. Additionally, it features an aggressive carbon fiber splitter and rockers, and a unique rear spoiler.
The cockpit of this menacing yellow Corvette is framed in a way to please the driver and passenger as much as possible. Equipped with the 3LZ interior option package, which is the most comprehensive available for this model, the creature comforts are endless. To name a few it has Napa leather heated and ventilated power competition sport seats, a see-through glass panel roof, Apple CarPlay and 4G LTE, a heads-up display unit, A Bose premium sound system and a carbon fiber flat-bottom steering wheel.
Arguably the very best car in its class and has demonstrated the ability to outperform its higher priced European peers on a regular basis, Americas sports car has become a world-class sports car, as evidenced by this Z06 and the more recent models that have been released.

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is a revolution in every sense of the word. Chevy switched to a mid-engine layout for the first time in the model’s history, and the excitement was through the roof. The automotive press loved the C8 Corvette so much in 2020 they bestow upon it many high honors, including Motor Trend’s Car of the Year. They called it the most significant game-changer in usable mid-engine performance since the original Acura NSX of the early 1990s. The new C8 got an exotic design to go along with its exotic layout, but Chevy still managed to integrate traditional Corvette styling where it could, making sure not to lose its heritage.
The 6.2-liter V8 engine is an evolution of the previous Corvette motor, making a hair more power than before. However, Chevy decided to drop the manual transmission in favor of a new dual-clutch automatic. The eight-speed gearbox is the only option now. On paper, and in person the C8 is a total knockout. It is available in coupe (T-top) and convertible body styles for the 2020 model year, and the performance statistics are otherworldly. From a numbers and specs perspective, it looks like the C8 has everything beat at its price point. With a curb weight of 3,535 pounds and equipped with the Z51 package, this Corvette will achieve a 0 to 60 time in a blistering 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 195 miles per hour. In addition to the astonishing performance numbers, the C8 is amazingly quiet, rides remarkably well, and delivers a level of interior quality never seen on previous Corvettes.
Finished in attractive Sebring Orange, this 2020 Corvette Sting Ray is one of 1,377 of the 20,368 C8 models produced in 2020 in this color. At base price, the standard 2020 C8 was $60,000 dollars, however, this example came with a price tag just below $90,000 dollars, thanks to a few extra boxes checked. One of the extra options is the 3LT Premium Equipment package, which tastefully upgrades the cabin with an array of extra amenities. On the performance side, it is equipped with the Z51 performance package which upgrades the brakes, suspension, exhaust, rear axle, exhaust, and many other items which can be found on the copy of the window sticker. Other noticeable options that help this Corvette stand apart from the rest is the carbon fiber removable roof panel and carbon fiber stripe package. Pound for pound, price for price, the C8 Corvette is easily one of the best sports cars one can find in today's market.

Known as America’s sports car, the Corvette is one that has been well-cemented in the automotive history books since its introduction in 1953. A testament to American automotive engineering during the late 20th century, this 1990 Corvette ZR1 Coupe before you, represents a pivotal moment in the storied history of the Corvette. This ZR1 emerged during a period when the American automotive industry was experiencing a resurgence in high-performance sports cars. The 1980s had seen a slight rise of interest in muscle/sports cars and Chevrolet aimed to reassert its dominance in the market. With competition like the Porsche 911 and Ferrari Testarossa gaining traction, the ZR1 combined performance, innovation, and style in an extraordinary package to give the buying public just what they needed, raw American power.
This 1990 Corvette ZR1 is a true time capsule example finished in the eye-catching color of Bright Red (code 81) over a saddle leather tan interior. Visually Setting it aside from a base Corvette, the ZR1 features wider rear fenders, a distinctive rear convex glass hatch, and unique badging throughout. Underneath the hood and body of this Corvette, is what really sets it apart from other 1990s Corvettes. Equipped with the ZR1 Special Performance package which was a 27,000 dollar option, it helped bring the grand total to $60,750 when new. The engine is a potent 380-horsepower 5.7-liter LT5 V-8 engine that is paired with a ZF 6-speed manual transmission. To add to its thrilling performance, the engineers at GM equipped this ZR1 with special features where you can select the ride and handling to either tour or sport mode, and with the turn of a special key, the driver can control how much power is being used. The ZR1 package also included the performance handling package, 6-way leather adjustable sport seats, a Delco Bose Gold series music system, and of course distinctive styling cues.
This ZR1 has amazingly covered less than 7,000 miles from when new and is accompanied by the original dealer paperwork including the window sticker, ZR1 special delivery box with VHS tape and manual, spare keys, and even the emergency key. Furthering/documenting its preservation and history, this ZR1 has been meticulously judged at multiple NCRS meets where it scored an impressive 99.3 points out of 100 and was awarded a Top Flight Award on two separate occasions. The ZR1 badge is one that is still utilized today on modern-day Vettes, and one that tells anyone who dares to challenge it in the street or the track, to thoroughly think through their decision.

Arguably sporting one of the best logos affixed to an automobile, the Viper was first introduced to the public in 1989 at the North American Auto Show under the Chrysler name. Designed to emulate Carroll Shelby’s Cobra, the first-gen Vipers were a pure performance vehicle, capable of 415 horsepower and 165 miles-per-hour, but without a lot of creature comforts. Even traction control and anti-lock brakes were not on the horizon. They were, however, certainly a huge image builder, proving that stodgy old Dodge still had a little race fuel in their veins. Originally built for Dodge by SRT, they soon joined regular production and proved to be popular with the motoring press and a valuable sales tool for their dealers.
Gen 2 - or SRII - was introduced in late 1996, and part of that update was the brand-new GTS Coupe body style. Here’s also where the power was upgraded to 450 HP, while the chassis weight was actually reduced by using more aluminum suspension components. That allowed the engineers to add in airbags, air-conditioning, CD sound system, power windows, and power locks, and it was as if that old rough performance car was suddenly wearing a brand-new suit and a shiny pair of shoes. While the Viper’s interior appears to be relatively spartan compared to some of its European counterparts, it is worth noting its primary focus is on performance and connecting the driver with the road. The cabin features leather upholstery, supportive bucket seats, and a driver-focused layout with a simple and intuitive dashboard. Creature comforts like A/C do exist, and this example even retains its original Alpine stereo system. The coupe body was stiffer and far more aerodynamic, and even with the new exterior door handles, the 1996 Viper was, at the time, the fastest Dodge ever produced.
The Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum is proud to display this attractive and eye-pleasing 2000 Dodge Viper GTS Coupe finished in Viper Red over a fine black leather interior. Built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan, this Viper is a highly original and unmodified example and stands as 1 of just 936 GTS units built in the year 2000 and 1 of just 111 GTS stripe delete examples ordered new. This Viper sits on 18-inch chrome 5-wide spoke wheels that are wrapped in like new Nitto tires. The 8.0-liter V-10 engine lurks under the hood and produces an aggressive 450 horsepower. Combined with its 6-speed manual transmission, this 2000 GTS can achieve a 0 to 60 mph time in 4.3 seconds and a quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds at 118 miles per hour.
This Viper is accompanied by a clean CarFax Report, its original manuals, and books, and has amazingly covered less than 15,000 miles since new, giving it the title of a time capsule example. The 2000 Dodge Viper GTS is a true American sports car legend that embodies power, performance, and style. Its raw V10 engine, distinctive design, and unapologetic attitude make it a sought-after collector’s item and an automobile for those who crave an adrenaline rush and a connection to the road like no other.

The coveted first-place finish at Le Mans has proved elusive to many of the world’s greatest car builders. Bentley set the mark rather early with four consecutive wins from 1927-1930. Many others laid claim to victory at the Mulsanne Straight but, when Ford went in search of bragging rights in the 1960s, they did so with gusto. So successful was their GT40 program that they actually managed to match Bentley’s record with four straight wins from 1966-1969. The GT40 went on to become a legend and it was only natural that Ford decided to honor the memory of this incredible car with a modern and updated version that could be driven on both the track and the open road.
Built using space-age materials and construction techniques, each GT was manufactured in five stages with initial assembly performed by Norwalk, Ohio's Mayflower Vehicle Systems; paint by Saleen Special Vehicles in Troy, Michigan; engine assembly at Ford's Romeo, Michigan engine plant; and finally, the engine and transmission installation and interior finishing at Ford's Wixom, Michigan plant. Notably, the Ford GT was the last vehicle project completed at Wixom. Only 4,038 examples were produced in all, with approximately 550, 1,900, and 1,600 built during 2004, 2005, and 2006 respectively. Demand far outstripped supply, with early cars selling for substantial premiums over the basic Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price and prospective buyers vying for vehicle-production slots.
An undeniable icon of speed with modern-day class and usability, this 2005 Ford is the 59th of just 96 examples to be finished in the rare color of Speed Yellow built for the 2005 model year. Presented in nearly new condition, this investment-grade Ford GT showed just 2,804 miles from new when the Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum took ownership in the fall of 2023. It is accompanied by a clean CARFAX®, which shows this GT has spent most of its life in the sunny state of Florida, with just three owners. Ford only offered four options for these supercars, and this fully loaded example checked the box for all four, which include lightweight BBS forged aluminum wheels, red-painted brake calipers, full-length racing stripes, and a McIntosh sound system.
The cabin is surprisingly roomy and comfy as the interior is trimmed in full leather with carbon fiber seats that are inlaid with ebony leather. Adding to the amenities of the interior, this supercar is equipped with a chilling air-conditioning system, tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, electric power windows, and of course the factory option Mclntosh AM/FM CD/MP3 sound system.
It is every bit exhilarating to drive as it appears; the 5.4-liter DOHC V-8 engine is paired with a factory Eaton supercharger that produces an arousing 550 horsepower and completes a 0 to 60 time in a blazing 3.3 seconds. Paired with a six-speed Ricardo manual transmission and helical limited-slip differential, this Ford GT is one of the best analog super/hypercar experiences one can possibly find.
Along with the clean CARFAX®, this Ford GT also has all of its factory paperwork, including the window sticker and official Ford Motor Company VIN certificate. This rare Speed Yellow Ford GT will not only make you the envy of other enthusiasts alike but also of those who seek the finer things in life. A supercar that is still at the top of everyone's list of cars to own or even experience from the cockpit, this particular 2005 Ford GT has solidified itself as one of the most iconic vehicles to ever grace the open road and track.

It was probably one of the craziest advertising gimmicks ever to hit the rental car market. Imagine going to your local Hertz office and being able to rent a real Shelby GT350 Mustang for a couple of days, a weekend adventure, or even an hour or two. In September 1965, a business agreement was reached between Shelby American and Hertz to supply 1,000 GT350s for the giant company’s rental fleet. Most of those were to be painted black with gold Le Mans stripes. They would have the Shelby-sized 289 V-8 engine with an output of 306 HP, and all but the first few delivered would be equipped with the C4 automatic transmission. This special edition Mustangs would become known as “Rent-A-Racers”.
Fast forward to the early 2000s, and both companies decided to revive their partnership to create a limited-edition Mustang rental car for the Hertz Corporation, one of the leading rental car companies in the United States. The aim was to offer Hertz customers a thrilling and exclusive driving experience that paid homage to the classic Rent-A-Racers. This vision would come to fruition in 2006 when Hertz would offer a mere 500 coupes and then, in 2007, offer another mere 500, but this time as a convertible.
This 2006 Ford Mustang Hertz Shelby GT-H Coupe presents like new and shows under 10,000 miles from new on the odometer. As 1 of just 500 produced to commemorate the original Rent-A-Racer Hertz and its 40-year anniversary, it wears the same recognizable black and gold livery. Affixed to the dash, this Shelby is assigned the official Shelby CSM No. 06H329, also the 329th car of 500 as its counterpart convertible version. This special edition new-age Rent-A-Racer is equipped with a naturally aspirated V-8 engine that produces 325 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque and is backed by an automatic transmission. The 2006 GT-Hs are also equipped with the Ford performance power pack and Cat-Back performance exhaust. Always maintained and looked after, it is accompanied by its original window sticker, Shelby Automobiles Inc. invoice, and almost all of its dealer paperwork.

Since its arrival in 1953, the Corvette has been a leader in the sports car market and one that strives for constant improvement with each and every model they produce. A new design that combined European flare and American muscle, the automotive press loved it so much, that it was bestowed with Motor Trend’s Car of the Year award. Many thought there was no way Chevrolet could improve, but fast forward to 2023, and this Z06 3LZ exists to prove everyone wrong. Finished in the eye-catching color of Rapid Blue with optional Sterling Silver full-length dual racing stripes and carbon graphics this 2023 Corvette Z06 3LZ presents in virtually new condition and when the Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum took ownership it had just over 600 break-in miles on the odometer. To add to the attractive color scheme, the consignor checked the box for the optional $8,500 Bright Red Brembo brake calipers, the dealer-installed carbon fiber Jake rear hash stripes, and the desirable $11,995 optional visible carbon fiber wheels. Rounding out its exotic look, it's equipped with composite splitter and rockers, and a matching Rapid Blue removable roof panel when the weather is favorable.

Thanks to the genius minds at Chevrolet, the numbers only get better whether on a track or the road, as this Z06 3LZ will propel to 60 miles per hour in just 2.6 seconds all while achieving a 10.7-second-quarter mile at 129 mph. As the old-time saying goes, “With great power, comes great responsibility,” and the engineers made sure the steering and overall experience were just as impressive, with an array of driving modes to choose from, like regular, sport, track or the notorious Z mode, where you can customize the driving experience to your exact liking. Its responsiveness and comfortable handling can also be attributed to the active stability and traction control, magnetic selective ride control, a heavy-duty cooling system, and the aforementioned $8,500 factory optional carbon ceramic brakes.
Step into the cabin and sit on the perfectly positioned and exceptionally comfortable 8-way power GT2 bucket seats, and it feels like you are sitting in the cockpit of a high-powered fighter jet with all the technology controls right at your fingertips. The Corvette ZR1 is a legendary high-performance variant of the Corvette, produced by General Motors (GM). The history of the ZR1 is a testament to GM’s commitment to pushing the limits of performance and engineering. The ZR1 name first appeared on the third generation Corvette, introduced in 1970 as a special high-performance package aimed at racing enthusiasts. Based on the LT1 engine, it produced 370 horsepower and was paired with track-ready components such as a Muncie M22 “Rock Crusher” four-speed manual transmission, heavy duty brakes, and an upgraded suspension. Only 53 of these examples were built between ’70 and ’72. After a long hiatus, the ZR-1 badging would return in 1990, this time with a LT5 engine that produced 405 horsepower. Discounted in 1995, the ZR1 would then be offered from 2009 to 2013, and then again in 2019.
The most extreme iteration of the famed ZR1 badge, the 2019 version, like this one, became something to be feared on the streets and track. Often regarded as one of the best performance Corvettes ever to hit the black top, this ZR1 is 1 of just 2,441 examples produced. Based on the C7 platform, this example is equipped with a boundary pushing 6.2-liter supercharged V8 LT5 engine that pushes out an astonishing 755 horsepower and 715 Ib-ft of torque. The Eaton supercharger on this ZR1 is 52 percent larger than the one found on the Z06.
While already impressive, this example is taken to another level as it is equipped with the ZTK Track Performance Package, which adds another level to the high-speed handling and grip. The package includes a two-way adjustable high rear wing, and the spring rates are 30 percent higher in the front and 13 percent higher in the rear. The ZTK package incorporates 60 percent more downforce the Z07 Performance package. Adding to its desirable track performance, its equipped with an optional seven-speed manual transmission. Other notable features include the optional $10,000 3ZR Premium Equipment Group, state of the art stereo system with Apple CarPlay, and optional blue brake calipers.
Carrying a clean CARFAX and limited ownership, this track focused, street legal ZR1 capable of reaching 212 miles-per-hour is one of the best performance Corvettes to ever be made available to the public.
